Answer 10 Quick Questions
FICO alone doesn't get you funded. We score the whole picture. Tap your answers — no typing.
1. Where's your personal credit score?
Use your real FICO (not Credit Karma's VantageScore — those run different). Ballpark is fine.
2. How long has the business been operating?
Time in business is one of the first things a lender checks.
3. About how much revenue runs through the business monthly?
Revenue can open doors even when the score isn't there yet.
4. Which of these do you already have set up?
Tap all that apply. Each missing piece can stop an application before credit even matters.
5. Do you have a business credit profile started?
Think D&B (Dun & Bradstreet) or Experian Business. No worries if not — it's optional for many bank and credit union applications.
6. What kind of industry is the business in?
Some industries are harder to fund regardless of credit — just means fewer lenders, not impossible.
*Cannabis/CBD, crypto, adult, firearms, gambling, trucking startup, travel, MLM, debt collection, used-auto, cash-intensive.
7. How much funding are you after?
Rough range is fine — it helps shape the right path.
8. How much of your available credit are you using?
Amounts owed, including utilization, is about 30% of a FICO score.
9. Any collections, charge-offs, or missed payments in the last 12 months?
Recent derogatories are the most common reason a strong-looking file gets denied.
10. How soon do you need the funding?
Last one — then you get your read.

Where Your Score Sits — and Why It's Not the Whole Story
Your FICO is the gate lenders check first. But it's only one input. Business age, revenue, structure, banking, and industry all move the needle.
| FICO Range | Tier | General Read (not a decision) |
|---|---|---|
| 580–619 | Sub-Prime | 🔴 Build First. Foundation + repair before applying. |
| 620–649 | Near-Prime | 🟡 Ready in 90 Days. Starter products today, push to 680. |
| 650–679 | Fair–Good | 🟡 Ready in 90 Days. Striking distance — close the gaps. |
| 680–719 | Good | 🟢 Ready Now — if foundation + revenue check out. |
| 720–739 | Very Good | 🟢 Ready Now. Strong multiple-lender position. |
| 740–850 | Excellent | 🟢 Ready Now. Usually the best rates and the widest lender choice. |
The Setup Lenders Look For
Each item is a potential blocker. Fixing these can remove common structural reasons for denial.
The 90-Day Readiness Push
If you are in the 620–679 range, these are the moves that usually matter most. Results vary by file. Here's the playbook.
Days 1–7 — Pull and Audit Everything
- Pull all 3 reports at AnnualCreditReport.com (Equifax, Experian, TransUnion)
- List every negative item: date, amount, who reported it
- Dispute any errors — wrong dates, wrong balances, accounts that aren't yours
Days 8–30 — Crush Utilization
- Get every credit card below 30% utilization (under 10% is even better)
- If you can't pay down — ask for a credit limit increase on cards in good standing
- Pay multiple times per month so utilization stays low when bureaus check
Amounts owed, which includes utilization, is about 30% of a FICO score. It is often the quickest thing you control.
Days 30–60 — Fix the History
- Goodwill letters for any 1–2 late payments on accounts in good standing
- Address collections — get any agreement in writing before you pay
- Thin file? Ask a family member with a long, clean card history to add you as an authorized user
Days 60–90 — Don't Mess It Up
- No new credit applications until you're at the funding stage
- Don't close old cards — they keep your average age high
- Re-pull your score at day 75. Adjust if any one card crept back up
